Last year at this time I was just about 9 months pregnant with Ladybug, so I was nesting and prepping the nursery more than I was cooking-lol! Although, I was eating quite a bit-loL!
So yes...here we have another baking recipe, but it's oh so good!!
Mama's Au Gratin
- 2 sweet potatoes
- 2 lbs. of new potatoes
- 3 or more turnips
- 1/3 c. butter
- 1/2 pint of heavy cream
- 3 large leeks
- 1 tsp. of nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. white pepper
- salt to taste
- 1/3 c. whole milk
- 1/2 to 3/4 c. of guyere cheese
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Butter a long casserole dish.
In a skillet add butter, milk, heavy cream, sliced leeks until melted. Then add all ingredients except the cheese. Cook until the veggies are a bit tender, about 10-15 minutes. Then add everything into the casserole dish. At this point throw in all the cheese and mix. Place into oven for 40-45 minutes. Voila...enjoy!!
If you're a meat eater you can also add some applewood bacon to it. Once cooked, just crumble it in the mix!
Sounds yummy! Have fun with all your winter activities. I want to learn to knit as well. :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness that looks so delicious! Nothing like some root veggies and cream to know it is winter;)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for all your plans for winter. As for knitting I highly recommend joining Ravelry (so many amazing patterns, projects and inspiartion) and for bread baking check out Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day (great book & great bread).
